October 23, 2017

On October 23 our SoCal VHPA Chapter, SoCal Chapter of Quad A (Army Aviation Association of America) and Army Aviation Heritage Foundation were together at YANKS Museum for a day of camaraderie. This event was a payback to the Yanks museum for sponsoring AAHF AZ Chapter for sharing their Cobra ( Black Pearl) and giving rides for the past 5 months. This was the last day before the Cobra would return to AZ. In a 4 hour period they gave 13 rides. The Cobra pilots were John Harris and Bob Sullivan and Robert Warner copilot/mech.

During the rides August Swanson (VHPA Member) brought his Serv-one catering crew and served lunch to 50 of us in attendance.
Thanks to Ron Warner, Steve Lund, Russ Chung, Jim Davidson, Andy Hoder, Mirko Duvnjak, August Swanson and the Yanks Museum Crew for putting on this great event.

Attached is a current picture of the progress of the Fisher House SoCal being built at the Long Beach VA. Ground breaking was last October and it’s coming along great.
When completed in late summer, family members will be able to stay for free while visiting injured and sick veterans at the VA Hospital. It is a great Honor for our Chapter to be part of this Fisher House with our fund raising.

Dick McCaig recently passed away. Our Chapter was able to give his family a personalized flag case with our chapter logo. As our members fly west, our plan is have these available to give to the families.

The museum has just expanded with two more hangers and has a CH-34, OH-58, TH-55 on display and F4 which they plan on flying soon. Even if your not a member, come by and check us out. We had a good turnout and talked about having another fundraiser for Fisher House SoCal. Even though the amount needed is not there, they will break ground and start building at the Long Beach VA this coming January in hopes that donations will come to finish the Fisher House. The amount our members donate will be matched by our Chapter up to $1000 and then matched again by Fisher House National. If our members donate $1000 the total amount will be $4000. Please give me your input about this. I’d like start this fundraiser in early December.
